10m requests in 10 minutes for $0.0116, CPU Usage + Requests + Limits, Optimizing Resource Utilization, Threw away 13 years of work for EKS

2 Apr 2025

This newsletter is brought to you by LoftLabs — simplify Kubernetes with vCluster, the leading solution for Kubernetes multi-tenancy and cost savings

In the past month, we've partnered with LoftLabs on a free educational series on Kubernetes multi-tenancy. We delivered six webinars and covered networking, security, costs and more for multi-tenant clusters.

All the sessions and labs are available on demand, and if you sign up for the series, you will get an email with all the links.

  1. The infrastructure to handle 10m requests in 10 minutes for $0.0116

    Tony Wang

This article outlines strategies for handling 10 million requests in 10 minutes on a budget of $0.0116.

It focuses on the required infrastructure and practical considerations for achieving cost efficiency and high availability.

  2. Understanding Kubernetes Multi-Tenancy: Models, Challenges, and Solutions

Master Kubernetes multi-tenancy: from namespaces to dedicated clusters—learn how to isolate teams effectively while balancing security and resource efficiency.

  3. Deep Dive into Kubernetes CPU Usage, Requests, and Limits

    John Tucker

Kubernetes CPU performance isn't just about limits: in this article, you will learn how thread count, time-slicing, and CPU requests interact to prevent throttling and optimize container workload efficiency.

  4. Optimizing Kubernetes Resource Utilization: CPU and Memory Requests and Limits

    Alexander Ibrahim

Learn how to optimize Kubernetes resource utilization by setting appropriate CPU and memory requests and limits.

Discover how to use autoscaling and continuous monitoring to balance requests and limits, avoiding over-provisioning and under-provisioning.

  5. We threw away 13 years of work for EKS

    Andrew George

In this case study, you'll learn how GumGum, an ad tech company, migrated their 13-year-old EC2 infrastructure to Amazon EKS and the benefits they gained from the modernization.

  6. Proxyless scale-to-zero with eBPF

    Isala Piyarisi

You can achieve 'scale-to-zero' efficiency with eBPF and overcome KEDA's limitations.

eBPF intercepts requests at Layer 3, eliminating proxies and reducing latency & costs.

  1. Multus-CNI

Multus CNI is a CNI plugin enables attaching multiple network interfaces to pods.

Typically, in Kubernetes, each pod only has one network interface (apart from a loopback).

With Multus, you can create a multi-homed pod with multiple interfaces.

  2. Liqo: multi-cluster topologies

Liqo is an open-source project that enables dynamic and seamless Kubernetes multi-cluster topologies, supporting heterogeneous on-premise, cloud and edge infrastructures.

  3. VolSync: replicate PVs

VolSync asynchronously replicates Kubernetes persistent volumes between clusters using either rsync or rclone.

It also supports creating backups of persistent volumes via restic.

  4. Kube-vip: virtual IP and load balancer

kube-vip provides Kubernetes clusters with a virtual IP and load balancer for both the control plane (for building a highly-available cluster) and Kubernetes Services of type LoadBalancer without relying on external hardware or software.
